Even in laughter the heart is sorrowful; and the end of that gladness [is] heaviness.

I said of laughter, [It is] mad: and of gladness, What does it?


Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and [your] joy to heaviness.


But Avraham [Exalted Father] said, Son, remember that youi in youri lifetime received youri good things, and likewise El’azar [whom God helps] evil things: but now he is comforted, and youi are tormented.

I said in my heart, Go to now, I will prove youi with gladness, therefore enjoy pleasure: and, behold, this also [is] vanity.
