Again he said to them: “When you fast do not be as the sad hypocrites who make themselves appear sad and who change their faces, to show their fasting before men; truly I say to you, they have already received their reward”.

And it came to pass, when I heard these words, that I sat down and wept, and mourned [certain] days, and fasted, and prayed before the God-Elōhīm (The Living Word) [The Many Powered] of heaven,

And I set my face unto the Lord-Adonai (The Father) [Greatest Above All Things], the God-Elōhīm (The Living Word) [The Many Powered], to seek by prayer and supplications, with fasting, and sackcloth, and ashes:

I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I acquire.

And the disciples of Yochanan [Yehovah has graced] and of the P’rushim (Pharisees) [separatists] used to fast: and they come and say unto him, Why do the disciples of Yochanan [Yehovah has graced] and of the P’rushim (Pharisees) [separatists] fast, but youri disciples fast not?

When I wept, [and chastened] my soul with fasting, that was to my reproach (disgrace; shame).

But as for me, when they were sick, my clothing [was] sackcloth: I humbled my soul with fasting; and my prayer returned into mine own bosom.

And when they had ordained them elders in every church, and had prayed with fasting, they commended them to the Lord - Kurios, on whom they believed.

At that time Yeshua [God is Salvation] said to his disciples: “When you pray do not raise your voice and do not be like the sad hypocrites who love to pray in the synagogues and in the corner of the courtyards and pray with arrogant (proud; lifted up) speech that men might hear and praise them. Truly I say to you, they have received their reward already”.

Again Yeshua [God is Salvation] said to them: “When you do charitable deeds do not wish to make a proclamation or blow trumpets before you as the hypocrites, who do their charitable deeds in the market places and in the streets in order that men might see them. Truly I say to you, they have received their reward already”.

Go, gather together all the Y’hudim (Judeans) that are present in Shushan [lily], and fast you2f for me, and neither eat nor drink three days, night or day: I also and my maidens will fast likewise; and so will I go in unto the king, which [is] not according to the law: and if I perish, I perish.

David [beloved] therefore besought God-Elōhīm (The Living Word) [The Many Powered] for the child; and David [beloved] fasted, and went in, and lay all night upon the earth.

My knees are weak through fasting; and my flesh fails of fatness.

And it came to pass, when Ach’av [father’s brother] heard those words, that he rent his clothes, and put sackcloth upon his flesh, and fasted, and lay in sackcloth, and went softly.

In weariness and painfulness, in watchings often, in hunger and thirst, in fastings often, in cold and nakedness.

Defraud you2f not one the other, except [it be] with consent for a time, that you2f may give yourselves to fasting and prayer; and come together again, that Satan [the adversary] tempt you not for your incontinency.

And she [was] a widow of about eighty and four years, which departed not from the temple, but served [God-Theos] with fastings and prayers night and day.

You2f have said, It [is] vain to serve God-Elōhīm (The Living Word) [The Many Powered]: and what profit [is it] that we have kept his ordinance, and that we have walked mournfully before the Lord-Yehōvah (Messiah Pre-Incarnate) Tz’va’ot [of the Heavenly Armies]?

Then said his servants unto him, What thing [is] this that youi have done? youi did fast and weep for the child, [while it was] alive; but when the child was dead, youi did rise and eat bread.

In stripes, in imprisonments, in tumults, in labours, in watchings, in fastings;

And Cornelius [severed] said, Four days ago I was fasting until this hour; and at the ninth hour I prayed in my house, and, behold, a man stood before me in bright clothing,

“Beware lest you do your charitable deeds before men that they might praise you; if you do, you will have no reward from your Father Who is in heaven”.
