Arise, O Judge of the earth. Give the proud what they deserve.

Surely you wouldn’t do such a thing, destroying the righteous along with the wicked. Why, you would be treating the righteous and the wicked exactly the same! Surely you wouldn’t do that! Should not the Judge of all the earth do what is right?”

O our God, won’t you stop them? We are powerless against this mighty army that is about to attack us. We do not know what to do, but we are looking to you for help.”

Love the Lord, all you godly ones! For the Lord protects those who are loyal to him, but he harshly punishes the arrogant.

Then let the heavens proclaim his justice, for God himself will be the judge. Interlude

Rise up, O God, and scatter your enemies. Let those who hate God run for their lives.

Arise, O Lord, in anger! Stand up against the fury of my enemies! Wake up, my God, and bring justice!

Arise, O God, and defend your cause. Remember how these fools insult you all day long.

Rise up, O God, and judge the earth, for all the nations belong to you.

After the Lord has used the king of Assyria to accomplish his purposes on Mount Zion and in Jerusalem, he will turn against the king of Assyria and punish him—for he is proud and arrogant.

Human pride will be humbled, and human arrogance will be brought down. Only the Lord will be exalted on that day of judgment.

“Whom have you been defying and ridiculing? Against whom did you raise your voice? At whom did you look with such haughty eyes? It was the Holy One of Israel!

And because of your raging against me and your arrogance, which I have heard for myself, I will put my hook in your nose and my bit in your mouth. I will make you return by the same road on which you came.”

“Now I, Nebuchadnezzar, praise and glorify and honor the King of heaven. All his acts are just and true, and he is able to humble the proud.”

The people of Israel will stand up to their foes, and all their enemies will be wiped out.

For we must all stand before Christ to be judged. We will each receive whatever we deserve for the good or evil we have done in this earthly body.

In the same way, you who are younger must accept the authority of the elders. And all of you, dress yourselves in humility as you relate to one another, for “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.”
