When Jehu left there, he met Jehonadab son of Recab, who was coming to meet him. After they had greeted each other, Jehu said to him, “Are you as loyal to me as I am to you?” “Yes, I am,” Jehonadab replied. “If you are,” Jehu said, “then give me your hand.” So Jehonadab put out his hand, and Jehu helped him into the chariot.

Jehu looked up and saw her at the window and shouted, “Who is on my side?” And two or three eunuchs looked out at him.

After thinking it over, I spoke out against these nobles and officials. I told them, “You are hurting your own relatives by charging interest when they borrow money!” Then I called a public meeting to deal with the problem.

The Lord is for me, so I will have no fear. What can mere people do to me?

Arise, O Lord! Stand against them, and bring them to their knees! Rescue me from the wicked with your sword!

Rescue me from these criminals; save me from these murderers.

He was amazed to see that no one intervened to help the oppressed. So he himself stepped in to save them with his strong arm, and his justice sustained him.

So we ourselves should support them so that we can be their partners as they teach the truth.

‘Let the people of Meroz be cursed,’ said the angel of the Lord. ‘Let them be utterly cursed, because they did not come to help the Lord— to help the Lord against the mighty warriors.’
