So the Lord sent a plague upon Israel that morning, and it lasted for three days. A total of 70,000 people died throughout the nation, from Dan in the north to Beersheba in the south.

“If there is a famine in the land or a plague or crop disease or attacks of locusts or caterpillars, or if your people’s enemies are in the land besieging their towns—whatever disaster or disease there is—

We escaped like a bird from a hunter’s trap. The trap is broken, and we are free!

Keep me from the traps they have set for me, from the snares of those who do wrong.

But God will smash the heads of his enemies, crushing the skulls of those who love their guilty ways.

Do not dread the disease that stalks in darkness, nor the disaster that strikes at midday.

Save yourself like a gazelle escaping from a hunter, like a bird fleeing from a net.

awaiting the arrow that would pierce its heart. He was like a bird flying into a snare, little knowing it would cost him his life.

People can never predict when hard times might come. Like fish in a net or birds in a trap, people are caught by sudden tragedy.

The prophet is a watchman over Israel for my God, yet traps are laid for him wherever he goes. He faces hostility even in the house of God.

Does a bird ever get caught in a trap that has no bait? Does a trap spring shut when there’s nothing to catch?

But people who long to be rich fall into temptation and are trapped by many foolish and harmful desires that plunge them into ruin and destruction.

Then they will come to their senses and escape from the devil’s trap. For they have been held captive by him to do whatever he wants.
