The Lord said, “I have made a covenant with David, my chosen servant. I have sworn this oath to him:

May God strike me and even kill me if I don’t do everything I can to help David get what the Lord has promised him!

The Lord swore an oath to David with a promise he will never take back: “I will place one of your descendants on your throne.

He chose his servant David, calling him from the sheep pens.

Long ago you spoke in a vision to your faithful people. You said, “I have raised up a warrior. I have selected him from the common people to be king.

I will love him and be kind to him forever; my covenant with him will never end.

You have renounced your covenant with him; you have thrown his crown in the dust.

“Look at my servant, whom I strengthen. He is my chosen one, who pleases me. I have put my Spirit upon him. He will bring justice to the nations.

“Come to me with your ears wide open. Listen, and you will find life. I will make an everlasting covenant with you. I will give you all the unfailing love I promised to David.

For my people will serve the Lord their God and their king descended from David— the king I will raise up for them.

But afterward the people will return and devote themselves to the Lord their God and to David’s descendant, their king. In the last days, they will tremble in awe of the Lord and of his goodness.

And a voice from heaven said, “This is my dearly loved Son, who brings me great joy.”

But he was a prophet, and he knew God had promised with an oath that one of David’s own descendants would sit on his throne.

but there was an oath regarding Jesus. For God said to him, “The Lord has taken an oath and will not break his vow: ‘You are a priest forever.’”

The angel of the Lord went up from Gilgal to Bokim and said to the Israelites, “I brought you out of Egypt into this land that I swore to give your ancestors, and I said I would never break my covenant with you.
