I give you thanks, O Lord, with all my heart; I will sing your praises before the gods.

The Lord, the Mighty One, is God, and he has spoken; he has summoned all humanity from where the sun rises to where it sets.

Then at last everyone will say, “There truly is a reward for those who live for God; surely there is a God who judges justly here on earth.”

No! You plot injustice in your hearts. You spread violence throughout the land.

But select from all the people some capable, honest men who fear God and hate bribes. Appoint them as leaders over groups of one thousand, one hundred, fifty, and ten.

If he does this, his master must present him before God. Then his master must take him to the door or doorpost and publicly pierce his ear with an awl. After that, the slave will serve his master for life.

“You must not dishonor God or curse any of your rulers.

Don’t be surprised if you see a poor person being oppressed by the powerful and if justice is being miscarried throughout the land. For every official is under orders from higher up, and matters of justice get lost in red tape and bureaucracy.

The Lord takes his place in court and presents his case against his people.

And you know that the Scriptures cannot be altered. So if those people who received God’s message were called ‘gods,’
