They were the pottery makers who lived in Netaim and Gederah. They lived there and worked for the king.

When the Israelites escaped from Egypt— when the family of Jacob left that foreign land—

All the tribes of Israel—the Lord’s people— make their pilgrimage here. They come to give thanks to the name of the Lord, as the law requires of Israel.

Even those who lived among the sheepfolds found treasures— doves with wings of silver and feathers of gold.

They made their lives bitter, forcing them to mix mortar and make bricks and do all the work in the fields. They were ruthless in all their demands.

“Therefore, say to the people of Israel: ‘I am the Lord. I will free you from your oppression and will rescue you from your slavery in Egypt. I will redeem you with a powerful arm and great acts of judgment.

In that day the Lord will end the bondage of his people. He will break the yoke of slavery and lift it from their shoulders.

For you will break the yoke of their slavery and lift the heavy burden from their shoulders. You will break the oppressor’s rod, just as you did when you destroyed the army of Midian.

Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls.
