Your own mouth condemns you, not I. Your own lips testify against you.

Let my enemies be destroyed by the very evil they have planned for me.

Hurl your lightning bolts and scatter your enemies! Shoot your arrows and confuse them!

Everyone who sees me mocks me. They sneer and shake their heads, saying,

I am scorned by all my enemies and despised by my neighbors— even my friends are afraid to come near me. When they see me on the street, they run the other way.

The righteous will see it and be amazed. They will laugh and say,

Because of the sinful things they say, because of the evil that is on their lips, let them be captured by their pride, their curses, and their lies.

My enemies retreated; they staggered and died when you appeared.

The wicked are trapped by their own words, but the godly escape such trouble.

The mouths of fools are their ruin; they trap themselves with their lips.

Therefore, their land will become desolate, a monument to their stupidity. All who pass by will be astonished and will shake their heads in amazement.

Did you not ridicule the people of Israel? Were they caught in the company of thieves that you should despise them as you do?

All who see you will shrink back and say, ‘Nineveh lies in ruins. Where are the mourners?’ Does anyone regret your destruction?”

All the people around them fled when they heard their screams. “The earth will swallow us, too!” they cried.

The religious leaders replied, “He will put the wicked men to a horrible death and lease the vineyard to others who will give him his share of the crop after each harvest.”

“‘You wicked servant!’ the king roared. ‘Your own words condemn you. If you knew that I’m a hard man who takes what isn’t mine and harvests crops I didn’t plant,

They will stand at a distance, terrified by her great torment. They will cry out, “How terrible, how terrible for you, O Babylon, you great city! In a single moment God’s judgment came on you.”

Then I heard another voice calling from heaven, “Come away from her, my people. Do not take part in her sins, or you will be punished with her.
