When God called me to leave my father’s home and to travel from place to place, I told her, ‘Do me a favor. Wherever we go, tell the people that I am your brother.’”

But you reply, ‘That’s why God can’t see what I am doing! How can he judge through the thick darkness?

The wicked think, “God isn’t watching us! He has closed his eyes and won’t even see what we do!”

We escaped like a bird from a hunter’s trap. The trap is broken, and we are free!

The proud have set a trap to catch me; they have stretched out a net; they have placed traps all along the way. Interlude

Listen to the filth that comes from their mouths; their words cut like swords. “After all, who can hear us?” they sneer.

“The Lord isn’t looking,” they say, “and besides, the God of Israel doesn’t care.”

“The enemy boasted, ‘I will chase them and catch up with them. I will plunder them and consume them. I will flash my sword; my powerful hand will destroy them.’

The idol makers encourage one another, saying to each other, “Be strong!”

Then the Lord said to me, “Son of man, have you seen what the leaders of Israel are doing with their idols in dark rooms? They are saying, ‘The Lord doesn’t see us; he has deserted our land!’”

Please come and curse these people for me because they are too powerful for me. Then perhaps I will be able to conquer them and drive them from the land. I know that blessings fall on any people you bless, and curses fall on people you curse.”

“What sorrow awaits you teachers of religious law and you Pharisees. Hypocrites! For you cross land and sea to make one convert, and then you turn that person into twice the child of hell you yourselves are!

All the people who belong to this world will gloat over them and give presents to each other to celebrate the death of the two prophets who had tormented them.

But the Israelites encouraged each other and took their positions again at the same place they had fought the previous day.
