The wicked think, “God isn’t watching us! He has closed his eyes and won’t even see what we do!”

Why do the wicked get away with despising God? They think, “God will never call us to account.”

His words are as smooth as butter, but in his heart is war. His words are as soothing as lotion, but underneath are daggers!

I am surrounded by fierce lions who greedily devour human prey— whose teeth pierce like spears and arrows, and whose tongues cut like swords.

“What does God know?” they ask. “Does the Most High even know what’s happening?”

How long will they speak with arrogance? How long will these evil people boast?

Some people make cutting remarks, but the words of the wise bring healing.

The tongue of the wise makes knowledge appealing, but the mouth of a fool belches out foolishness.

The heart of the godly thinks carefully before speaking; the mouth of the wicked overflows with evil words.

“Have you noticed what people are saying?—‘The Lord chose Judah and Israel and then abandoned them!’ They are sneering and saying that Israel is not worthy to be counted as a nation.

My enemies whisper and mutter as they plot against me all day long.

You brood of snakes! How could evil men like you speak what is good and right? For whatever is in your heart determines what you say.
