“Go out and stand before me on the mountain,” the Lord told him. And as Elijah stood there, the Lord passed by, and a mighty windstorm hit the mountain. It was such a terrible blast that the rocks were torn loose, but the Lord was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake.

I said, ‘This far and no farther will you come. Here your proud waves must stop!’

The ropes of death entangled me; floods of destruction swept over me.

Now, you people of Jerusalem and Judah, you judge between me and my vineyard.

For the mountains may move and the hills disappear, but even then my faithful love for you will remain. My covenant of blessing will never be broken,” says the Lord, who has mercy on you.

I looked at the mountains and hills, and they trembled and shook.

Have you no respect for me? Why don’t you tremble in my presence? I, the Lord, define the ocean’s sandy shoreline as an everlasting boundary that the waters cannot cross. The waves may toss and roar, but they can never pass the boundaries I set.

The mountains melt beneath his feet and flow into the valleys like wax in a fire, like water pouring down a hill.

In his presence the mountains quake, and the hills melt away; the earth trembles, and its people are destroyed.

Though the rain comes in torrents and the floodwaters rise and the winds beat against that house, it won’t collapse because it is built on bedrock.

And every island disappeared, and all the mountains were leveled.

Then the angel said to me, “The waters where the prostitute is ruling represent masses of people of every nation and language.
