But the Lord turns his face against those who do evil; he will erase their memory from the earth.

All memory of their existence will fade from the earth; no one will remember their names.

He never takes his eyes off the innocent, but he sets them on thrones with kings and exalts them forever.

The Lord is king forever and ever! The godless nations will vanish from the land.

Then the earth quaked and trembled. The foundations of the mountains shook; they quaked because of his anger.

But the Lord watches over those who fear him, those who rely on his unfailing love.

Is he deaf—the one who made your ears? Is he blind—the one who formed your eyes?

We have happy memories of the godly, but the name of a wicked person rots away.

The Lord is far from the wicked, but he hears the prayers of the righteous.

I have seen wicked people buried with honor. Yet they were the very ones who frequented the Temple and are now praised in the same city where they committed their crimes! This, too, is meaningless.

O Lord, the hope of Israel, all who turn away from you will be disgraced. They will be buried in the dust of the earth, for they have abandoned the Lord, the fountain of living water.

“Therefore, this is what the Lord of Heaven’s Armies, the God of Israel, says: I am determined to destroy every one of you!

“And if any native Israelite or foreigner living among you eats or drinks blood in any form, I will turn against that person and cut him off from the community of your people,

I will turn against you, and you will be defeated by your enemies. Those who hate you will rule over you, and you will run even when no one is chasing you!

Even if their enemies drive them into exile, I will command the sword to kill them there. I am determined to bring disaster upon them and not to help them.”
