“These wicked people are heavy and prosperous; their waists bulge with fat.

Their hearts are dull and stupid, but I delight in your instructions.

We have had more than our fill of the scoffing of the proud and the contempt of the arrogant.

Silence their lying lips— those proud and arrogant lips that accuse the godly.

“The enemy boasted, ‘I will chase them and catch up with them. I will plunder them and consume them. I will flash my sword; my powerful hand will destroy them.’

“Is that so?” retorted Pharaoh. “And who is the Lord? Why should I listen to him and let Israel go? I don’t know the Lord, and I will not let Israel go.”

Harden the hearts of these people. Plug their ears and shut their eyes. That way, they will not see with their eyes, nor hear with their ears, nor understand with their hearts and turn to me for healing.”

“Stop acting so proud and haughty! Don’t speak with such arrogance! For the Lord is a God who knows what you have done; he will judge your actions.
