“If they sin against you—and who has never sinned?—you might become angry with them and let their enemies conquer them and take them captive to their land far away or near.

Must you keep an eye on such a frail creature and demand an accounting from me?

Can any mortal be pure? Can anyone born of a woman be just?

How can a mortal be innocent before God? Can anyone born of a woman be pure?

‘Can a mortal be innocent before God? Can anyone be pure before the Creator?’

Lord, if you kept a record of our sins, who, O Lord, could ever survive?

I lavish unfailing love to a thousand generations. I forgive iniquity, rebellion, and sin. But I do not excuse the guilty. I lay the sins of the parents upon their children and grandchildren; the entire family is affected— even children in the third and fourth generations.”

Not a single person on earth is always good and never sins.

For no one can ever be made right with God by doing what the law commands. The law simply shows us how sinful we are.

Yet we know that a person is made right with God by faith in Jesus Christ, not by obeying the law. And we have believed in Christ Jesus, so that we might be made right with God because of our faith in Christ, not because we have obeyed the law. For no one will ever be made right with God by obeying the law.”

If we claim we have not sinned, we are calling God a liar and showing that his word has no place in our hearts.
