Thereafter, Hagar used another name to refer to the Lord, who had spoken to her. She said, “You are the God who sees me.” She also said, “Have I truly seen the One who sees me?”

“But I know you well— where you stay and when you come and go. I know the way you have raged against me.

“It’s not us, my lord the king,” one of the officers replied. “Elisha, the prophet in Israel, tells the king of Israel even the words you speak in the privacy of your bedroom!”

But for your sake we are killed every day; we are being slaughtered like sheep.

You keep track of all my sorrows. You have collected all my tears in your bottle. You have recorded each one in your book.

The Lord knows people’s thoughts; he knows they are worthless!

The Lord is watching everywhere, keeping his eye on both the evil and the good.

“But I know you well— where you stay and when you come and go. I know the way you have raged against me.

Then the Spirit of the Lord came upon me, and he told me to say, “This is what the Lord says to the people of Israel: I know what you are saying, for I know every thought that comes into your minds.

“This is what the Sovereign Lord asks: Are you the one I was talking about long ago, when I announced through Israel’s prophets that in the future I would bring you against my people?

Do not despise these small beginnings, for the Lord rejoices to see the work begin, to see the plumb line in Zerubbabel’s hand.” (The seven lamps represent the eyes of the Lord that search all around the world.)

Jesus knew what they were thinking, so he asked them, “Why do you have such evil thoughts in your hearts?

But Jesus knew their thoughts, so he brought a little child to his side.

So don’t make judgments about anyone ahead of time—before the Lord returns. For he will bring our darkest secrets to light and will reveal our private motives. Then God will give to each one whatever praise is due.

And when great disasters come down on them, this song will stand as evidence against them, for it will never be forgotten by their descendants. I know the intentions of these people, even now before they have entered the land I swore to give them.”
