I will not tolerate people who slander their neighbors. I will not endure conceit and pride.

Though the Lord is great, he cares for the humble, but he keeps his distance from the proud.

Those who refuse to gossip or harm their neighbors or speak evil of their friends.

You rescue the humble, but you humiliate the proud.

You sit around and slander your brother— your own mother’s son.

“You must not testify falsely against your neighbor.

“You must not pass along false rumors. You must not cooperate with evil people by lying on the witness stand.

Hiding hatred makes you a liar; slandering others makes you a fool.

A gossip goes around telling secrets, so don’t hang around with chatterers.

Haughty eyes, a proud heart, and evil actions are all sin.

As surely as a north wind brings rain, so a gossiping tongue causes anger!

They look proudly around, casting disdainful glances.

Human pride will be brought down, and human arrogance will be humbled. Only the Lord will be exalted on that day of judgment.

People accuse others falsely and send them to their death. You are filled with idol worshipers and people who do obscene things.

“Now I, Nebuchadnezzar, praise and glorify and honor the King of heaven. All his acts are just and true, and he is able to humble the proud.”

“Do not spread slanderous gossip among your people. “Do not stand idly by when your neighbor’s life is threatened. I am the Lord.

I tell you, this sinner, not the Pharisee, returned home justified before God. For those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.”

I meant that you are not to associate with anyone who claims to be a believer yet indulges in sexual sin, or is greedy, or worships idols, or is abusive, or is a drunkard, or cheats people. Don’t even eat with such people.

In the same way, their wives must be respected and must not slander others. They must exercise self-control and be faithful in everything they do.

Similarly, teach the older women to live in a way that honors God. They must not slander others or be heavy drinkers. Instead, they should teach others what is good.

“Stop acting so proud and haughty! Don’t speak with such arrogance! For the Lord is a God who knows what you have done; he will judge your actions.
