Psalm 101:3

I will refuse to look at anything vile and vulgar. I hate all who deal crookedly; I will have nothing to do with them.

“I made a covenant with my eyes not to look with lust at a young woman.

I hate those with divided loyalties, but I love your instructions.

Turn my eyes from worthless things, and give me life through your word.

But banish those who turn to crooked ways, O Lord. Take them away with those who do evil. May Israel have peace!

Yes, I hate them with total hatred, for your enemies are my enemies.

But no, all have turned away; all have become corrupt. No one does good, not a single one!

Everything they say is crooked and deceitful. They refuse to act wisely or do good.

I said to myself, “I will watch what I do and not sin in what I say. I will hold my tongue when the ungodly are around me.”

Oh, the joys of those who trust the Lord, who have no confidence in the proud or in those who worship idols.

Even my best friend, the one I trusted completely, the one who shared my food, has turned against me.

Again and again they tested God’s patience and provoked the Holy One of Israel.

They turned back and were as faithless as their parents. They were as undependable as a crooked bow.

You who love the Lord, hate evil! He protects the lives of his godly people and rescues them from the power of the wicked.

“You must not covet your neighbor’s house. You must not covet your neighbor’s wife, male or female servant, ox or donkey, or anything else that belongs to your neighbor.”

How quickly they have turned away from the way I commanded them to live! They have melted down gold and made a calf, and they have bowed down and sacrificed to it. They are saying, ‘These are your gods, O Israel, who brought you out of the land of Egypt.’”

What are worthless and wicked people like? They are constant liars,

signaling their deceit with a wink of the eye, a nudge of the foot, or the wiggle of fingers.

Don’t lust for her beauty. Don’t let her coy glances seduce you.

All who fear the Lord will hate evil. Therefore, I hate pride and arrogance, corruption and perverse speech.

Enjoy what you have rather than desiring what you don’t have. Just dreaming about nice things is meaningless—like chasing the wind.

Forget all this gloom. Get off your narrow path. Stop telling us about your ‘Holy One of Israel.’”

Those who are honest and fair, who refuse to profit by fraud, who stay far away from bribes, who refuse to listen to those who plot murder, who shut their eyes to all enticement to do wrong—

“But you! You have eyes only for greed and dishonesty! You murder the innocent, oppress the poor, and reign ruthlessly.”

When you want a piece of land, you find a way to seize it. When you want someone’s house, you take it by fraud and violence. You cheat a man of his property, stealing his family’s inheritance.

Don’t scheme against each other. Stop your love of telling lies that you swear are the truth. I hate all these things, says the Lord.”

But I say, anyone who even looks at a woman with lust has already committed adultery with her in his heart.

Don’t just pretend to love others. Really love them. Hate what is wrong. Hold tightly to what is good.

So now that you know God (or should I say, now that God knows you), why do you want to go back again and become slaves once more to the weak and useless spiritual principles of this world?

Keep none of the plunder that has been set apart for destruction. Then the Lord will turn from his fierce anger and be merciful to you. He will have compassion on you and make you a large nation, just as he swore to your ancestors.

Do not be mean-spirited and refuse someone a loan because the year for canceling debts is close at hand. If you refuse to make the loan and the needy person cries out to the Lord, you will be considered guilty of sin.

But we are not like those who turn away from God to their own destruction. We are the faithful ones, whose souls will be saved.

“So be very careful to follow everything Moses wrote in the Book of Instruction. Do not deviate from it, turning either to the right or to the left.

It would be better if they had never known the way to righteousness than to know it and then reject the command they were given to live a holy life.

These people left our churches, but they never really belonged with us; otherwise they would have stayed with us. When they left, it proved that they did not belong with us.

“I am sorry that I ever made Saul king, for he has not been loyal to me and has refused to obey my command.” Samuel was so deeply moved when he heard this that he cried out to the Lord all night.
