In their blind conceit, they cannot see how wicked they really are.

Fools think their own way is right, but the wise listen to others.

There is a path before each person that seems right, but it ends in death.

Fire tests the purity of silver and gold, but the Lord tests the heart.

People may be right in their own eyes, but the Lord examines their heart.

Don’t excuse yourself by saying, “Look, we didn’t know.” For God understands all hearts, and he sees you. He who guards your soul knows you knew. He will repay all people as their actions deserve.

They are pure in their own eyes, but they are filthy and unwashed.

For the Lord sees clearly what a man does, examining every path he takes.

But for those who are righteous, the way is not steep and rough. You are a God who does what is right, and you smooth out the path ahead of them.

But I, the Lord, search all hearts and examine secret motives. I give all people their due rewards, according to what their actions deserve.”

Tekel means ‘weighed’—you have been weighed on the balances and have not measured up.

“Why did you beat your donkey those three times?” the angel of the Lord demanded. “Look, I have come to block your way because you are stubbornly resisting me.

Then he said to them, “You like to appear righteous in public, but God knows your hearts. What this world honors is detestable in the sight of God.

“Write this letter to the angel of the church in Thyatira. This is the message from the Son of God, whose eyes are like flames of fire, whose feet are like polished bronze:

I will strike her children dead. Then all the churches will know that I am the one who searches out the thoughts and intentions of every person. And I will give to each of you whatever you deserve.

In those days Israel had no king; all the people did whatever seemed right in their own eyes.

Only 300 of the men drank from their hands. All the others got down on their knees and drank with their mouths in the stream.

But the Lord said to Samuel, “Don’t judge by his appearance or height, for I have rejected him. The Lord doesn’t see things the way you see them. People judge by outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”

“Stop acting so proud and haughty! Don’t speak with such arrogance! For the Lord is a God who knows what you have done; he will judge your actions.
