They may say, “Come and join us. Let’s hide and kill someone! Just for fun, let’s ambush the innocent!

They are like hungry lions, eager to tear me apart— like young lions hiding in ambush.

I did them no wrong, but they laid a trap for me. I did them no wrong, but they dug a pit to catch me.

They come together to spy on me— watching my every step, eager to kill me.

They rush to commit evil deeds. They hurry to commit murder.

But these people set an ambush for themselves; they are trying to get themselves killed.

The words of the wicked are like a murderous ambush, but the words of the godly save lives.

Don’t wait in ambush at the home of the godly, and don’t raid the house where the godly live.

If you assist a thief, you only hurt yourself. You are sworn to tell the truth, but you dare not testify.

They have teeth like swords and fangs like knives. They devour the poor from the earth and the needy from among humanity.

I was like a lamb being led to the slaughter. I had no idea that they were planning to kill me! “Let’s destroy this man and all his words,” they said. “Let’s cut him down, so his name will be forgotten forever.”

“Among my people are wicked men who lie in wait for victims like a hunter hiding in a blind. They continually set traps to catch people.

The godly people have all disappeared; not one honest person is left on the earth. They are all murderers, setting traps even for their own brothers.

This fulfills what is written in their Scriptures: ‘They hated me without cause.’

So you and the high council should ask the commander to bring Paul back to the council again. Pretend you want to examine his case more fully. We will kill him on the way.”

They asked Festus as a favor to transfer Paul to Jerusalem (planning to ambush and kill him on the way).
