“Everything they do is for show. On their arms they wear extra wide prayer boxes with Scripture verses inside, and they wear robes with extra long tassels.

This is the message of Good News for the people of Israel—that there is peace with God through Jesus Christ, who is Lord of all.

However, some of the believers who went to Antioch from Cyprus and Cyrene began preaching to the Gentiles about the Lord Jesus.

And every day, in the Temple and from house to house, they continued to teach and preach this message: “Jesus is the Messiah.”

So beginning with this same Scripture, Philip told him the Good News about Jesus.

Philip, for example, went to the city of Samaria and told the people there about the Messiah.

And immediately he began preaching about Jesus in the synagogues, saying, “He is indeed the Son of God!”

But he will pour out his anger and wrath on those who live for themselves, who refuse to obey the truth and instead live lives of wickedness.

So when we preach that Christ was crucified, the Jews are offended and the Gentiles say it’s all nonsense.

If I gave everything I have to the poor and even sacrificed my body, I could boast about it; but if I didn’t love others, I would have gained nothing.

For Jesus Christ, the Son of God, does not waver between “Yes” and “No.” He is the one whom Silas, Timothy, and I preached to you, and as God’s ultimate “Yes,” he always does what he says.

These people are false apostles. They are deceitful workers who disguise themselves as apostles of Christ.

For I am afraid that when I come I won’t like what I find, and you won’t like my response. I am afraid that I will find quarreling, jealousy, anger, selfishness, slander, gossip, arrogance, and disorderly behavior.

You see, we don’t go around preaching about ourselves. We preach that Jesus Christ is Lord, and we ourselves are your servants for Jesus’ sake.

Even that question came up only because of some so-called believers there—false ones, really—who were secretly brought in. They sneaked in to spy on us and take away the freedom we have in Christ Jesus. They wanted to enslave us and force us to follow their Jewish regulations.

Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves.

Without question, this is the great mystery of our faith: Christ was revealed in a human body and vindicated by the Spirit. He was seen by angels and announced to the nations. He was believed in throughout the world and taken to heaven in glory.
