Numbers 27:3

“Our father died in the wilderness,” they said. “He was not among Korah’s followers, who rebelled against the Lord; he died because of his own sin. But he had no sons.

For all people are mine to judge—both parents and children alike. And this is my rule: The person who sins is the one who will die.

I, the Lord, have spoken! I will certainly do these things to every member of the community who has conspired against me. They will be destroyed here in this wilderness, and here they will die!”

Meanwhile, Korah had stirred up the entire community against Moses and Aaron, and they all gathered at the Tabernacle entrance. Then the glorious presence of the Lord appeared to the whole community,

But 14,700 people died in that plague, in addition to those who had died in the affair involving Korah.

(One of Hepher’s descendants, Zelophehad, had no sons, but his daughters’ names were Mahlah, Noah, Hoglah, Milcah, and Tirzah.)

These women stood before Moses, Eleazar the priest, the tribal leaders, and the entire community at the entrance of the Tabernacle.

Why should the name of our father disappear from his clan just because he had no sons? Give us property along with the rest of our relatives.”

Later Jesus said to them again, “I am going away. You will search for me but will die in your sin. You cannot come where I am going.”

That is why I said that you will die in your sins; for unless you believe that I Am who I claim to be, you will die in your sins.”

When Adam sinned, sin entered the world. Adam’s sin brought death, so death spread to everyone, for everyone sinned.

So just as sin ruled over all people and brought them to death, now God’s wonderful grace rules instead, giving us right standing with God and resulting in eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord.
