Give them someone who will guide them wherever they go and will lead them into battle, so the community of the Lord will not be like sheep without a shepherd.”

These women stood before Moses, Eleazar the priest, the tribal leaders, and the entire community at the entrance of the Tabernacle.

Transfer some of your authority to him so the whole community of Israel will obey him.

So Moses did as the Lord commanded. He presented Joshua to Eleazar the priest and the whole community.

So the Israelites examined their food, but they did not consult the Lord.

After the death of Joshua, the Israelites asked the Lord, “Which tribe should go first to attack the Canaanites?”

Before the battle the Israelites went to Bethel and asked God, “Which tribe should go first to attack the people of Benjamin?” The Lord answered, “Judah is to go first.”

For they had gone up to Bethel and wept in the presence of the Lord until evening. They had asked the Lord, “Should we fight against our relatives from Benjamin again?” And the Lord had said, “Go out and fight against them.”

But while Saul was talking to the priest, the confusion in the Philistine camp grew louder and louder. So Saul said to the priest, “Never mind; let’s get going!”

But David learned of Saul’s plan and told Abiathar the priest to bring the ephod and ask the Lord what he should do.

He asked the Lord what he should do, but the Lord refused to answer him, either by dreams or by sacred lots or by the prophets.

Then he said to Abiathar the priest, “Bring me the ephod!” So Abiathar brought it.
