Numbers 26:65

New Living Translation

For the Lord had said of them, “They will all die in the wilderness.” Not one of them survived except Caleb son of Jephunneh and Joshua son of Nun.

For the wicked will be destroyed, but those who trust in the Lord will possess the land.

That night the people of Israel left Rameses and started for Succoth. There were about 600,000 men, plus all the women and children.

Then the Lord said to Moses and Aaron,

But as for you, you will drop dead in this wilderness.

I, the Lord, have spoken! I will certainly do these things to every member of the community who has conspired against me. They will be destroyed here in this wilderness, and here they will die!”

Of the twelve who had explored the land, only Joshua and Caleb remained alive.

“Our father died in the wilderness,” they said. “He was not among Korah’s followers, who rebelled against the Lord; he died because of his own sin. But he had no sons.

Notice how God is both kind and severe. He is severe toward those who disobeyed, but kind to you if you continue to trust in his kindness. But if you stop trusting, you also will be cut off.

except Caleb son of Jephunneh. He will see this land because he has followed the Lord completely. I will give to him and his descendants some of the very land he explored during his scouting mission.’

Joshua had to circumcise them because all the men who were old enough to fight in battle when they left Egypt had died in the wilderness.

So I want to remind you, though you already know these things, that Jesus first rescued the nation of Israel from Egypt, but later he destroyed those who did not remain faithful.
