and they began to speak against God and Moses. “Why have you brought us out of Egypt to die here in the wilderness?” they complained. “There is nothing to eat here and nothing to drink. And we hate this horrible manna!”

They even spoke against God himself, saying, “God can’t give us food in the wilderness.

and they said to Moses, “Why did you bring us out here to die in the wilderness? Weren’t there enough graves for us in Egypt? What have you done to us? Why did you make us leave Egypt?

Then the people complained and turned against Moses. “What are we going to drink?” they demanded.

The Israelites were puzzled when they saw it. “What is it?” they asked each other. They had no idea what it was. And Moses told them, “It is the food the Lord has given you to eat.

The Israelites called the food manna. It was white like coriander seed, and it tasted like honey wafers.

A person who is full refuses honey, but even bitter food tastes sweet to the hungry.

“But their children, too, rebelled against me. They refused to keep my decrees and follow my regulations, even though obedience would have given them life. And they also violated my Sabbath days. So again I threatened to pour out my fury on them in the wilderness.

You will eat it for a whole month until you gag and are sick of it. For you have rejected the Lord, who is here among you, and you have whined to him, saying, “Why did we ever leave Egypt?”’”

But the very next morning the whole community of Israel began muttering again against Moses and Aaron, saying, “You have killed the Lord’s people!”

Then the people of Israel said to Moses, “Look, we are doomed! We are dead! We are ruined!

Nor should we put Christ to the test, as some of them did and then died from snakebites.
