Numbers 19:14

New Living Translation

“This is the ritual law that applies when someone dies inside a tent: All those who enter that tent and those who were inside when the death occurred will be ceremonially unclean for seven days.

It will take seven months for the people of Israel to bury the bodies and cleanse the land.

Even then, he can return to his Temple duties only after being ceremonially cleansed and then waiting for seven days.

These are the instructions for dealing with anyone who has a bodily discharge—a man who is unclean because of an emission of semen

The Lord said to Moses, “Give the following instructions to the priests, the descendants of Aaron. “A priest must not make himself ceremonially unclean by touching the dead body of a relative.

He must not defile himself by going near a dead body. He may not make himself ceremonially unclean even for his father or mother.

All those who touch a dead body and do not purify themselves in the proper way defile the Lord’s Tabernacle, and they will be cut off from the community of Israel. Since the water of purification was not sprinkled on them, their defilement continues.

Any open container in the tent that was not covered with a lid is also defiled.

Purify all your clothing, too, and everything made of leather, goat hair, or wood.”

“Command the people of Israel to remove from the camp anyone who has a skin disease or a discharge, or who has become ceremonially unclean by touching a dead person.

And they must not go near a dead body during the entire period of their vow to the Lord.

“If someone falls dead beside them, the hair they have dedicated will be defiled. They must wait for seven days and then shave their heads. Then they will be cleansed from their defilement.

But some of the men had been ceremonially defiled by touching a dead body, so they could not celebrate the Passover that day. They came to Moses and Aaron that day
