When they came to the valley of Eshcol, they cut down a branch with a single cluster of grapes so large that it took two of them to carry it on a pole between them! They also brought back samples of the pomegranates and figs.

But one of Lot’s men escaped and reported everything to Abram the Hebrew, who was living near the oak grove belonging to Mamre the Amorite. Mamre and his relatives, Eshcol and Aner, were Abram’s allies.

That place was called the valley of Eshcol (which means “cluster”), because of the cluster of grapes the Israelite men cut there.

After they went up to the valley of Eshcol and explored the land, they discouraged the people of Israel from entering the land the Lord was giving them.

It is a land of wheat and barley; of grapevines, fig trees, and pomegranates; of olive oil and honey.

Some time later Samson fell in love with a woman named Delilah, who lived in the valley of Sorek.
