And Moses said to the Lord, “Why are you treating me, your servant, so harshly? Have mercy on me! What did I do to deserve the burden of all these people?

I will say to God, ‘Don’t simply condemn me— tell me the charge you are bringing against me.

Lord, if you kept a record of our sins, who, O Lord, could ever survive?

Don’t put your servant on trial, for no one is innocent before you.

Then Moses cried out to the Lord, “What should I do with these people? They are ready to stone me!”

Then Moses went back to the Lord and protested, “Why have you brought all this trouble on your own people, Lord? Why did you send me?

Then I said, “What sorrow is mine, my mother. Oh, that I had died at birth! I am hated everywhere I go. I am neither a lender who threatens to foreclose nor a borrower who refuses to pay— yet they all curse me.”

Why then does my suffering continue? Why is my wound so incurable? Your help seems as uncertain as a seasonal brook, like a spring that has gone dry.”

“You have said, ‘What’s the use of serving God? What have we gained by obeying his commands or by trying to show the Lord of Heaven’s Armies that we are sorry for our sins?

Moses heard all the families standing in the doorways of their tents whining, and the Lord became extremely angry. Moses was also very aggravated.

If this is how you intend to treat me, just go ahead and kill me. Do me a favor and spare me this misery!”

Then, besides all this, I have the daily burden of my concern for all the churches.

But you are such a heavy load to carry! How can I deal with all your problems and bickering?
