Nehemiah 13:2

New Living Translation

For they had not provided the Israelites with food and water in the wilderness. Instead, they hired Balaam to curse them, though our God turned the curse into a blessing.

Then let them curse me if they like, but you will bless me! When they attack me, they will be disgraced! But I, your servant, will go right on rejoicing!

Don’t you remember, my people, how King Balak of Moab tried to have you cursed and how Balaam son of Beor blessed you instead? And remember your journey from Acacia Grove to Gilgal, when I, the Lord, did everything I could to teach you about my faithfulness.”

This was the message Balaam delivered: “Rise up, Balak, and listen! Hear me, son of Zippor.

“And the King will say, ‘I tell you the truth, when you did it to one of the least of these my brothers and sisters, you were doing it to me!’

“No Ammonite or Moabite or any of their descendants for ten generations may be admitted to the assembly of the Lord.

These nations did not welcome you with food and water when you came out of Egypt. Instead, they hired Balaam son of Beor from Pethor in distant Aram-naharaim to curse you.

But the Lord your God refused to listen to Balaam. He turned the intended curse into a blessing because the Lord your God loves you.

They have wandered off the right road and followed the footsteps of Balaam son of Beor, who loved to earn money by doing wrong.
