The wicked will see this and be infuriated. They will grind their teeth in anger; they will slink away, their hopes thwarted.

My servants will sing for joy, but you will cry in sorrow and despair.

The field is the world, and the good seed represents the people of the Kingdom. The weeds are the people who belong to the evil one.

You are the children of those prophets, and you are included in the covenant God promised to your ancestors. For God said to Abraham, ‘Through your descendants all the families on earth will be blessed.’

They are the people of Israel, chosen to be God’s adopted children. God revealed his glory to them. He made covenants with them and gave them his law. He gave them the privilege of worshiping him and receiving his wonderful promises.

These people are as useless as dried-up springs or as mist blown away by the wind. They are doomed to blackest darkness.

For God did not spare even the angels who sinned. He threw them into hell, in gloomy pits of darkness, where they are being held until the day of judgment.

They are like wild waves of the sea, churning up the foam of their shameful deeds. They are like wandering stars, doomed forever to blackest darkness.

Outside the city are the dogs—the sorcerers, the sexually immoral, the murderers, the idol worshipers, and all who love to live a lie.

“He will protect his faithful ones, but the wicked will disappear in darkness. No one will succeed by strength alone.
