To reject the law is to praise the wicked; to obey the law is to fight them.

They hatch deadly snakes and weave spiders’ webs. Whoever eats their eggs will die; whoever cracks them will hatch a viper.

Flee from Babylon! Save yourselves! Don’t get trapped in her punishment! It is the Lord’s time for vengeance; he will repay her in full.

To whom can I give warning? Who will listen when I speak? Their ears are closed, and they cannot hear. They scorn the word of the Lord. They don’t want to listen at all.

But when the Pharisees heard about the miracle, they said, “No wonder he can cast out demons. He gets his power from Satan, the prince of demons.”

You brood of snakes! How could evil men like you speak what is good and right? For whatever is in your heart determines what you say.

Then the disciples came to him and asked, “Do you realize you offended the Pharisees by what you just said?”

One day the Pharisees and Sadducees came to test Jesus, demanding that he show them a miraculous sign from heaven to prove his authority.

“Watch out!” Jesus warned them. “Beware of the yeast of the Pharisees and Sadducees.”

Then the Pharisees met together to plot how to trap Jesus into saying something for which he could be arrested.

That same day Jesus was approached by some Sadducees—religious leaders who say there is no resurrection from the dead. They posed this question:

But when the Pharisees heard that he had silenced the Sadducees with his reply, they met together to question him again.

Snakes! Sons of vipers! How will you escape the judgment of hell?

“But I warn you—unless your righteousness is better than the righteousness of the teachers of religious law and the Pharisees, you will never enter the Kingdom of Heaven!

Later the leaders sent some Pharisees and supporters of Herod to trap Jesus into saying something for which he could be arrested.

Then Jesus was approached by some Sadducees—religious leaders who say there is no resurrection from the dead. They posed this question:

As they were crossing the lake, Jesus warned them, “Watch out! Beware of the yeast of the Pharisees and of Herod.”

The Pharisees, who dearly loved their money, heard all this and scoffed at him.

The Pharisee stood by himself and prayed this prayer: ‘I thank you, God, that I am not like other people—cheaters, sinners, adulterers. I’m certainly not like that tax collector!

But the Pharisees and experts in religious law rejected God’s plan for them, for they had refused John’s baptism.

Then the Pharisees who had been sent

For you are the children of your father the devil, and you love to do the evil things he does. He was a murderer from the beginning. He has always hated the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, it is consistent with his character; for he is a liar and the father of lies.

Some Pharisees who were standing nearby heard him and asked, “Are you saying we’re blind?”

But then some of the believers who belonged to the sect of the Pharisees stood up and insisted, “The Gentile converts must be circumcised and required to follow the law of Moses.”

Watch out! Remember the three years I was with you—my constant watch and care over you night and day, and my many tears for you.

If they would admit it, they know that I have been a member of the Pharisees, the strictest sect of our religion.

The high priest and his officials, who were Sadducees, were filled with jealousy.

But God shows his anger from heaven against all sinful, wicked people who suppress the truth by their wickedness.

And since we have been made right in God’s sight by the blood of Christ, he will certainly save us from God’s condemnation.

And they speak of how you are looking forward to the coming of God’s Son from heaven—Jesus, whom God raised from the dead. He is the one who has rescued us from the terrors of the coming judgment.

It was by faith that Noah built a large boat to save his family from the flood. He obeyed God, who warned him about things that had never happened before. By his faith Noah condemned the rest of the world, and he received the righteousness that comes by faith.

So God has given both his promise and his oath. These two things are unchangeable because it is impossible for God to lie. Therefore, we who have fled to him for refuge can have great confidence as we hold to the hope that lies before us.

So now we can tell who are children of God and who are children of the devil. Anyone who does not live righteously and does not love other believers does not belong to God.
