Once when some Israelites were burying a man, they spied a band of these raiders. So they hastily threw the corpse into the tomb of Elisha and fled. But as soon as the body touched Elisha’s bones, the dead man revived and jumped to his feet!

He will swallow up death forever! The Sovereign Lord will wipe away all tears. He will remove forever all insults and mockery against his land and people. The Lord has spoken!

But those who die in the Lord will live; their bodies will rise again! Those who sleep in the earth will rise up and sing for joy! For your life-giving light will fall like dew on your people in the place of the dead!

Many of those whose bodies lie dead and buried will rise up, some to everlasting life and some to shame and everlasting disgrace.

“Should I ransom them from the grave? Should I redeem them from death? O death, bring on your terrors! O grave, bring on your plagues! For I will not take pity on them.

Then he said, “Our friend Lazarus has fallen asleep, but now I will go and wake him up.”

He fell to his knees, shouting, “Lord, don’t charge them with this sin!” And with that, he died.

That is why many of you are weak and sick and some have even died.

But in fact, Christ has been raised from the dead. He is the first of a great harvest of all who have died.

But let me reveal to you a wonderful secret. We will not all die, but we will all be transformed!

For since we believe that Jesus died and was raised to life again, we also believe that when Jesus returns, God will bring back with him the believers who have died.

Christ died for us so that, whether we are dead or alive when he returns, we can live with him forever.
