Furthermore, half their children spoke the language of Ashdod or of some other people and could not speak the language of Judah at all.

Again Peter denied it, this time with an oath. “I don’t even know the man,” he said.

Peter swore, “A curse on me if I’m lying—I don’t know the man!” And immediately the rooster crowed.

But Peter denied it again. A little later some of the other bystanders confronted Peter and said, “You must be one of them, because you are a Galilean.”

They were completely amazed. “How can this be?” they exclaimed. “These people are all from Galilee,

they would tell him to say “Shibboleth.” If he was from Ephraim, he would say “Sibboleth,” because people from Ephraim cannot pronounce the word correctly. Then they would take him and kill him at the shallow crossings of the Jordan. In all, 42,000 Ephraimites were killed at that time.
