On the morning of the third day, thunder roared and lightning flashed, and a dense cloud came down on the mountain. There was a long, loud blast from a ram’s horn, and all the people trembled.

He will raise a flag among the nations and assemble the exiles of Israel. He will gather the scattered people of Judah from the ends of the earth.

They come from distant countries, from beyond the farthest horizons. They are the Lord’s weapons to carry out his anger. With them he will destroy the whole land.

In that day the great trumpet will sound. Many who were dying in exile in Assyria and Egypt will return to Jerusalem to worship the Lord on his holy mountain.

Sing a new song to the Lord! Sing his praises from the ends of the earth! Sing, all you who sail the seas, all you who live in distant coastlands.

I will say to the north and south, ‘Bring my sons and daughters back to Israel from the distant corners of the earth.

Let all the world look to me for salvation! For I am God; there is no other.

Look around you and see, for all your children will come back to you. As surely as I live,” says the Lord, “they will be like jewels or bridal ornaments for you to display.

In fact, unless that time of calamity is shortened, not a single person will survive. But it will be shortened for the sake of God’s chosen ones.

For false messiahs and false prophets will rise up and perform great signs and wonders so as to deceive, if possible, even God’s chosen ones.

“Now learn a lesson from the fig tree. When its branches bud and its leaves begin to sprout, you know that summer is near.

“But when the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, then he will sit upon his glorious throne.

Jesus came and told his disciples, “I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth.

And he will send out his angels to gather his chosen ones from all over the world—from the farthest ends of the earth and heaven.

And not only for that nation, but to bring together and unite all the children of God scattered around the world.

But I ask, have the people of Israel actually heard the message? Yes, they have: “The message has gone throughout the earth, and the words to all the world.”

It will happen in a moment, in the blink of an eye, when the last trumpet is blown. For when the trumpet sounds, those who have died will be raised to live forever. And we who are living will also be transformed.

And this is the plan: At the right time he will bring everything together under the authority of Christ—everything in heaven and on earth.

Even though you are banished to the ends of the earth, the Lord your God will gather you from there and bring you back again.

“Now search all of history, from the time God created people on the earth until now, and search from one end of the heavens to the other. Has anything as great as this ever been seen or heard before?

For the Lord himself will come down from heaven with a commanding shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trumpet call of God. First, the believers who have died will rise from their graves.

For they heard an awesome trumpet blast and a voice so terrible that they begged God to stop speaking.
