As Jesus was leaving the Temple grounds, his disciples pointed out to him the various Temple buildings.

He said to Seraiah, “When you get to Babylon, read aloud everything on this scroll.

Listen to this warning, Jerusalem, or I will turn from you in disgust. Listen, or I will turn you into a heap of ruins, a land where no one lives.”

“Son of man,” he said, “do you see what they are doing? Do you see the detestable sins the people of Israel are committing to drive me from my Temple? But come, and you will see even more detestable sins than these!”

Even if you do have children who grow up, I will take them from you. It will be a terrible day when I turn away and leave you alone.

When Jesus returned to the Temple and began teaching, the leading priests and elders came up to him. They demanded, “By what authority are you doing all these things? Who gave you the right?”

For I tell you this, you will never see me again until you say, ‘Blessings on the one who comes in the name of the Lord!’”

“What!” they exclaimed. “It has taken forty-six years to build this Temple, and you can rebuild it in three days?”
