So the family went and lived in a town called Nazareth. This fulfilled what the prophets had said: “He will be called a Nazarene.”

The entire city of Jerusalem was in an uproar as he entered. “Who is this?” they asked.

But if we say it was merely human, we’ll be mobbed because the people believe John was a prophet.”

They wanted to arrest him, but they were afraid of the crowds, who considered Jesus to be a prophet.

Others said, “He’s the prophet Elijah.” Still others said, “He’s a prophet like the other great prophets of the past.”

Yes, today, tomorrow, and the next day I must proceed on my way. For it wouldn’t do for a prophet of God to be killed except in Jerusalem!

“What things?” Jesus asked. “The things that happened to Jesus, the man from Nazareth,” they said. “He was a prophet who did powerful miracles, and he was a mighty teacher in the eyes of God and all the people.

Great fear swept the crowd, and they praised God, saying, “A mighty prophet has risen among us,” and “God has visited his people today.”

When the Pharisee who had invited him saw this, he said to himself, “If this man were a prophet, he would know what kind of woman is touching him. She’s a sinner!”

“Well then, who are you?” they asked. “Are you Elijah?” “No,” he replied. “Are you the Prophet we are expecting?” “No.”

asked him, “If you aren’t the Messiah or Elijah or the Prophet, what right do you have to baptize?”

“Sir,” the woman said, “you must be a prophet.

When the people saw him do this miraculous sign, they exclaimed, “Surely, he is the Prophet we have been expecting!”

When the crowds heard him say this, some of them declared, “Surely this man is the Prophet we’ve been expecting.”

Then the Pharisees again questioned the man who had been blind and demanded, “What’s your opinion about this man who healed you?” The man replied, “I think he must be a prophet.”

“Moses himself told the people of Israel, ‘God will raise up for you a Prophet like me from among your own people.’
