Then Jesus told them, “A prophet is honored everywhere except in his own hometown and among his relatives and his own family.”

This is what the Lord says about the men of Anathoth who wanted me dead. They had said, “We will kill you if you do not stop prophesying in the Lord’s name.”

Even your brothers, members of your own family, have turned against you. They plot and raise complaints against you. Do not trust them, no matter how pleasantly they speak.

And they were deeply offended and refused to believe in him. Then Jesus told them, “A prophet is honored everywhere except in his own hometown and among his own family.”

Jesus left that part of the country and returned with his disciples to Nazareth, his hometown.

But I tell you the truth, no prophet is accepted in his own hometown.

He himself had said that a prophet is not honored in his own hometown.
