So Lot rushed out to tell his daughters’ fiancés, “Quick, get out of the city! The Lord is about to destroy it.” But the young men thought he was only joking.

He went in alone and shut the door behind him and prayed to the Lord.

But when Sanballat, Tobiah, and Geshem the Arab heard of our plan, they scoffed contemptuously. “What are you doing? Are you rebelling against the king?” they asked.

Yet my friends laugh at me, for I call on God and expect an answer. I am a just and blameless man, yet they laugh at me.

The Pharisees, who dearly loved their money, heard all this and scoffed at him.

When they heard Paul speak about the resurrection of the dead, some laughed in contempt, but others said, “We want to hear more about this later.”
