When Abraham’s servant heard their answer, he bowed down to the ground and worshiped the Lord.

“Yes,” they replied. “Our father, your servant, is alive and well.” And they bowed low again.

Yet I will preserve 7,000 others in Israel who have never bowed down to Baal or kissed him!”

And they spit on him and grabbed the stick and struck him on the head with it.

They will mock him, spit on him, flog him with a whip, and kill him, but after three days he will rise again.”

Then some of them began to spit at him, and they blindfolded him and beat him with their fists. “Prophesy to us,” they jeered. And the guards slapped him as they took him away.

Then they saluted him and taunted, “Hail! King of the Jews!”

When they were finally tired of mocking him, they took off the purple robe and put his own clothes on him again. Then they led him away to be crucified.

Jesus responded, “Elijah is indeed coming first to get everything ready. Yet why do the Scriptures say that the Son of Man must suffer greatly and be treated with utter contempt?

The guards in charge of Jesus began mocking and beating him.

Then Herod and his soldiers began mocking and ridiculing Jesus. Finally, they put a royal robe on him and sent him back to Pilate.

The soldiers mocked him, too, by offering him a drink of sour wine.

And do you remember God’s reply? He said, “No, I have 7,000 others who have never bowed down to Baal!”

that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth,

So let us go out to him, outside the camp, and bear the disgrace he bore.
