You can make many plans, but the Lord’s purpose will prevail.

No human wisdom or understanding or plan can stand against the Lord.

And it is good for people to submit at an early age to the yoke of his discipline:

“As you know, Passover begins in two days, and the Son of Man will be handed over to be crucified.”

“But not during the Passover celebration,” they agreed, “or the people may riot.”

When the leading priests and teachers of religious law heard what Jesus had done, they began planning how to kill him. But they were afraid of him because the people were so amazed at his teaching.

But do we dare say it was merely human?” For they were afraid of what the people would do, because everyone believed that John was a prophet.

It was now two days before Passover and the Festival of Unleavened Bread. The leading priests and the teachers of religious law were still looking for an opportunity to capture Jesus secretly and kill him.

Meanwhile, Jesus was in Bethany at the home of Simon, a man who had previously had leprosy. While he was eating, a woman came in with a beautiful alabaster jar of expensive perfume made from essence of nard. She broke open the jar and poured the perfume over his head.

But if we say it was merely human, the people will stone us because they are convinced John was a prophet.”

The Festival of Unleavened Bread, which is also called Passover, was approaching.

Then the Pharisees said to each other, “There’s nothing we can do. Look, everyone has gone after him!”

When the crowds heard him say this, some of them declared, “Surely this man is the Prophet we’ve been expecting.”
