A little farther up the shore Jesus saw Zebedee’s sons, James and John, in a boat repairing their nets.

A little farther up the shore he saw two other brothers, James and John, sitting in a boat with their father, Zebedee, repairing their nets. And he called them to come, too.

And they left their nets at once and followed him.

He called them at once, and they also followed him, leaving their father, Zebedee, in the boat with the hired men.

Then James and John, the sons of Zebedee, came over and spoke to him. “Teacher,” they said, “we want you to do us a favor.”

He took Peter, James, and John with him, and he became deeply troubled and distressed.

When they arrived, they went to the upstairs room of the house where they were staying. Here are the names of those who were present: Peter, John, James, Andrew, Philip, Thomas, Bartholomew, Matthew, James (son of Alphaeus), Simon (the zealot), and Judas (son of James).

He had the apostle James (John’s brother) killed with a sword.
