One day soon afterward Jesus went up on a mountain to pray, and he prayed to God all night.

Every day I call to you, my God, but you do not answer. Every night I lift my voice, but I find no relief.

In the night I search for you; in the morning I earnestly seek you. For only when you come to judge the earth will people learn what is right.

But when Daniel learned that the law had been signed, he went home and knelt down as usual in his upstairs room, with its windows open toward Jerusalem. He prayed three times a day, just as he had always done, giving thanks to his God.

One day as he saw the crowds gathering, Jesus went up on the mountainside and sat down. His disciples gathered around him,

But when you pray, go away by yourself, shut the door behind you, and pray to your Father in private. Then your Father, who sees everything, will reward you.

Before daybreak the next morning, Jesus got up and went out to an isolated place to pray.

Afterward Jesus went up on a mountain and called out the ones he wanted to go with him. And they came to him.

After telling everyone good-bye, he went up into the hills by himself to pray.

But Jesus often withdrew to the wilderness for prayer.

At this, the enemies of Jesus were wild with rage and began to discuss what to do with him.

When they came down from the mountain, the disciples stood with Jesus on a large, level area, surrounded by many of his followers and by the crowds. There were people from all over Judea and from Jerusalem and from as far north as the seacoasts of Tyre and Sidon.

One day Jesus left the crowds to pray alone. Only his disciples were with him, and he asked them, “Who do people say I am?”

About eight days later Jesus took Peter, John, and James up on a mountain to pray.

And as he was praying, the appearance of his face was transformed, and his clothes became dazzling white.

Then Jesus climbed a hill and sat down with his disciples around him.

Devote yourselves to prayer with an alert mind and a thankful heart.

While Jesus was here on earth, he offered prayers and pleadings, with a loud cry and tears, to the one who could rescue him from death. And God heard his prayers because of his deep reverence for God.

“I am sorry that I ever made Saul king, for he has not been loyal to me and has refused to obey my command.” Samuel was so deeply moved when he heard this that he cried out to the Lord all night.
