One Sabbath day as Jesus was walking through some grainfields, his disciples broke off heads of grain, rubbed off the husks in their hands, and ate the grain.

For seven days the bread you eat must be made without yeast. On the first day of the festival, remove every trace of yeast from your homes. Anyone who eats bread made with yeast during the seven days of the festival will be cut off from the community of Israel.

“From the day after the Sabbath—the day you bring the bundle of grain to be lifted up as a special offering—count off seven full weeks.

On the first day of the festival, all the people must stop their ordinary work and observe an official day for holy assembly.

But no one who drinks the old wine seems to want the new wine. ‘The old is just fine,’ they say.”

On another Sabbath day, a man with a deformed right hand was in the synagogue while Jesus was teaching.

“Count off seven weeks from when you first begin to cut the grain at the time of harvest.

And when you enter your neighbor’s field of grain, you may pluck the heads of grain with your hand, but you must not harvest it with a sickle.
