When you see these things, your heart will rejoice. You will flourish like the grass! Everyone will see the Lord’s hand of blessing on his servants— and his anger against his enemies.

What is all the commotion in the city? What is that terrible noise from the Temple? It is the voice of the Lord taking vengeance against his enemies.

The Lord is a jealous God, filled with vengeance and rage. He takes revenge on all who oppose him and continues to rage against his enemies!

But he will sweep away his enemies in an overwhelming flood. He will pursue his foes into the darkness of night.

“The king was furious, and he sent out his army to destroy the murderers and burn their town.

But his people hated him and sent a delegation after him to say, ‘We do not want him to be our king.’

“I’ll tell you—he will come and kill those farmers and lease the vineyard to others.” “How terrible that such a thing should ever happen,” his listeners protested.

For those will be days of God’s vengeance, and the prophetic words of the Scriptures will be fulfilled.

They will be killed by the sword or sent away as captives to all the nations of the world. And Jerusalem will be trampled down by the Gentiles until the period of the Gentiles comes to an end.

There he waits until his enemies are humbled and made a footstool under his feet.

Then the people exclaimed to Samuel, “Now where are those men who said, ‘Why should Saul rule over us?’ Bring them here, and we will kill them!”
