So Satan left the Lord’s presence, and he struck Job with terrible boils from head to foot.

The righteous person faces many troubles, but the Lord comes to the rescue each time.

I get nothing but trouble all day long; every morning brings me pain.

You are battered from head to foot— covered with bruises, welts, and infected wounds— without any soothing ointments or bandages.

Is there no medicine in Gilead? Is there no physician there? Why is there no healing for the wounds of my people?

Later, out by the gate, another servant girl noticed him and said to those standing around, “This man was with Jesus of Nazareth.”

Jesus said, “There was a certain rich man who was splendidly clothed in purple and fine linen and who lived each day in luxury.

As Lazarus lay there longing for scraps from the rich man’s table, the dogs would come and lick his open sores.

A man named Lazarus was sick. He lived in Bethany with his sisters, Mary and Martha.

As they approached the Temple, a man lame from birth was being carried in. Each day he was put beside the Temple gate, the one called the Beautiful Gate, so he could beg from the people going into the Temple.

Believers who are poor have something to boast about, for God has honored them.

Listen to me, dear brothers and sisters. Hasn’t God chosen the poor in this world to be rich in faith? Aren’t they the ones who will inherit the Kingdom he promised to those who love him?

He lifts the poor from the dust and the needy from the garbage dump. He sets them among princes, placing them in seats of honor. For all the earth is the Lord’s, and he has set the world in order.
