Then Jesus told this story: “A man planted a fig tree in his garden and came again and again to see if there was any fruit on it, but he was always disappointed.

But I was the one who planted you, choosing a vine of the purest stock—the very best. How did you grow into this corrupt wild vine?

I will surely consume them. There will be no more harvests of figs and grapes. Their fruit trees will all die. Whatever I gave them will soon be gone. I, the Lord, have spoken!’

No, and I tell you again that unless you repent, you will perish, too.”

But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,

I don’t say this because I want a gift from you. Rather, I want you to receive a reward for your kindness.

But the fig tree also refused, saying, ‘Should I quit producing my sweet fruit just to wave back and forth over the trees?’
