These people are grumblers and complainers, living only to satisfy their desires. They brag loudly about themselves, and they flatter others to get what they want.

I won’t play favorites or try to flatter anyone.

He doesn’t care how great a person may be, and he pays no more attention to the rich than to the poor. He made them all.

Instead, they grumbled in their tents and refused to obey the Lord.

Those who despise flagrant sinners, and honor the faithful followers of the Lord, and keep their promises even when it hurts.

They are without pity. Listen to their boasting!

They scoff and speak only evil; in their pride they seek to crush others.

Showing partiality is never good, yet some will do wrong for a mere piece of bread.

Then the wayward will gain understanding, and complainers will accept instruction.

“Do not twist justice in legal matters by favoring the poor or being partial to the rich and powerful. Always judge people fairly.

The ten men Moses had sent to explore the land—the ones who incited rebellion against the Lord with their bad report—

The Lord is the one you and your followers are really revolting against! For who is Aaron that you are complaining about him?”

But the very next morning the whole community of Israel began muttering again against Moses and Aaron, saying, “You have killed the Lord’s people!”

This made the Pharisees and teachers of religious law complain that he was associating with such sinful people—even eating with them!

But the people were displeased. “He has gone to be the guest of a notorious sinner,” they grumbled.

But the Pharisees and their teachers of religious law complained bitterly to Jesus’ disciples, “Why do you eat and drink with such scum?”

Then the people began to murmur in disagreement because he had said, “I am the bread that came down from heaven.”

Jesus was aware that his disciples were complaining, so he said to them, “Does this offend you?

And don’t grumble as some of them did, and then were destroyed by the angel of death.

So I say, let the Holy Spirit guide your lives. Then you won’t be doing what your sinful nature craves.

Those who belong to Christ Jesus have nailed the passions and desires of their sinful nature to his cross and crucified them there.

You complained in your tents and said, ‘The Lord must hate us. That’s why he has brought us here from Egypt—to hand us over to the Amorites to be slaughtered.

Do everything without complaining and arguing,

not in lustful passion like the pagans who do not know God and his ways.

These people always cause trouble. Their minds are corrupt, and they have turned their backs on the truth. To them, a show of godliness is just a way to become wealthy.

For a time is coming when people will no longer listen to sound and wholesome teaching. They will follow their own desires and will look for teachers who will tell them whatever their itching ears want to hear.

So you must live as God’s obedient children. Don’t slip back into your old ways of living to satisfy your own desires. You didn’t know any better then.

Dear friends, I warn you as “temporary residents and foreigners” to keep away from worldly desires that wage war against your very souls.

You won’t spend the rest of your lives chasing your own desires, but you will be anxious to do the will of God.

He is especially hard on those who follow their own twisted sexual desire, and who despise authority. These people are proud and arrogant, daring even to scoff at supernatural beings without so much as trembling.

They brag about themselves with empty, foolish boasting. With an appeal to twisted sexual desires, they lure back into sin those who have barely escaped from a lifestyle of deception.

Most importantly, I want to remind you that in the last days scoffers will come, mocking the truth and following their own desires.

to execute judgment on the people of the world. He will convict every person of all the ungodly things they have done and for all the insults that ungodly sinners have spoken against him.”

They told you that in the last times there would be scoffers whose purpose in life is to satisfy their ungodly desires.
