So Edom has been independent from Judah to this day. The town of Libnah also revolted about that same time.

Meanwhile, the Assyrian chief of staff left Jerusalem and went to consult the king of Assyria, who had left Lachish and was attacking Libnah.

“Six of the towns you give the Levites will be cities of refuge, where a person who has accidentally killed someone can flee for safety. In addition, give them forty-two other towns.

Then Joshua and the Israelites went to Libnah and attacked it.

Besides these, there were Libnah, Ether, Ashan,

Humtah, Kiriath-arba (that is, Hebron), and Zior—nine towns with their surrounding villages.

The following cities were designated as cities of refuge: Kedesh of Galilee, in the hill country of Naphtali; Shechem, in the hill country of Ephraim; and Kiriath-arba (that is, Hebron), in the hill country of Judah.

But the open fields beyond the town and the surrounding villages were given to Caleb son of Jephunneh as his possession.
