Joshua 17:14

New Living Translation

The descendants of Joseph came to Joshua and asked, “Why have you given us only one portion of land as our homeland when the Lord has blessed us with so many people?”

But his father refused. “I know, my son; I know,” he replied. “Manasseh will also become a great people, but his younger brother will become even greater. And his descendants will become a multitude of nations.”

So Jacob blessed the boys that day with this blessing: “The people of Israel will use your names when they give a blessing. They will say, ‘May God make you as prosperous as Ephraim and Manasseh.’” In this way, Jacob put Ephraim ahead of Manasseh.

And beyond what I have given your brothers, I am giving you an extra portion of the land that I took from the Amorites with my sword and bow.”

South of Manasseh is Ephraim,

Give the larger tribes more land and the smaller tribes less land, each group receiving a grant in proportion to the size of its population.

They married into the clans of Manasseh son of Joseph. Thus, their inheritance of land remained within their ancestral tribe.

This was the homeland allocated to the families of Joseph’s sons, Manasseh and Ephraim.

Joshua replied, “If there are so many of you, and if the hill country of Ephraim is not large enough for you, clear out land for yourselves in the forest where the Perizzites and Rephaites live.”
