“Now, as you can see, the Lord has kept me alive and well as he promised for all these forty-five years since Moses made this promise—even while Israel wandered in the wilderness. Today I am eighty-five years old.

Some wandered in the wilderness, lost and homeless.

Though a thousand fall at your side, though ten thousand are dying around you, these evils will not touch you.

You will not enter and occupy the land I swore to give you. The only exceptions will be Caleb son of Jephunneh and Joshua son of Nun.

Of the twelve who had explored the land, only Joshua and Caleb remained alive.
